Students will explore the skeletal system by taking an in-depth look at the hinge joint inside of the knee. A fill in the blanks section can be found with the instructions to reinforce the location of ligaments, tendons and cartilage inside of a joint. A completed knee joint to use for reference can be found above the blank knee joint that students will use to construct. Students will cut out bones, ligaments, muscle and tendons to attach to the joint. Students will identify the structures and label the joint once their work has been attached to the handout. Several copies of the connective tissue have been included in the file for teacher’s preferences. In one version, each student can receive a single sheet of paper which has all of the structures to be cut out on it. If teachers would prefer to color code the individual structures, handouts that have one type of structure per page could be used instead. An answer key for both versions has been included.
