This is the perfect resource to have in your classroom when teaching students addition up to 20! The Build a Monster activity is interactive, engaging, and fun for all students. Complete this activity in small group or as a whole group activity. Either way, this is a win-win resource!
How does the Build a Monster activity work?
First, have your students choose and glue one of the three body shapes on the cover page. Then, the students get to pick out the physical features of their monster. This includes the eyes, mouth, and accessories. But here's the catch... They can only spend $20. Each feature costs a different amount and the students have to decide which features they want/or can afford on their monster without going over their budget. Once the students have picked out all of their monster's features, they may cut them out and glue them to the body shape that they have already glued on the cover page. The little square in the bottom right corner of the cover page is where the students put the total amount of money spent on creating their monster.
