Description

This engaging wintertime activity will help your students build words with prefixes and/or suffixes by dressing up snowmen in scarves, hats, and earmuffs.

Each of the 10 snowman cards contains a root word for your kids to dress up with prefix cards (earmuffs & hats) and/or suffix cards (scarves). They will then write the completed word on the included recording sheet and draw the dressed-up snowman (fun!). Below their new word is a place for them to write the definition of their new word.

This activity is a wonderful supplement to a prefix and suffix lesson because it allows your students to practice engaging, hands-on, and colorful word-building.

This activity addresses the following 3rd Grade Common Core State Standards:
- CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.3.2 Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing.
- CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.3.4 Determine or clarify the meaning of unknown and multiple-meaning word and phrases based on grade 3 reading and content, choosing flexibly from a range of strategies.
