Are you looking for a low prep, creative and engaging, fun-filled activity to teach your students about topic, main idea, and key details?
For this craftivity, students will close read a narrative paragraph about building a snowman, looking for sentences that relate and do not relate to the topic and/or main idea. They will cut apart sentence strips, placing those that support the main idea in a Circle Map. Once this activity is complete, students will complete the snowman craftivivty. The main idea and key details activity as well as the close reading paragraph will become a part of the craftivity.
Don't have time to complete the craftivity? Do you just want to build the snowman? No problem. Both activities can be completed independent of the other.
A lesson plan is included for the main idea and key details activity, making this an excellent hands on lesson for an observation.
A flap book for an interactive notebook activity to introduce/reinforce the key terms has also been included.
