This game is a great way to have your students practice reading long vowel words with vowel digraphs. Plus, it's fun! It is perfect for small groups, literacy centers, partner work, RTI or special education settings.
My Build a Snowman Game contains over 90 game cards. You can have your students play using the entire deck, or you can start with the digraphs you have covered and add more as your students learn them. The following vowel digraphs are included: ai, ee, ea, ay, oa, ow.
Directions: 2-6 Players. Print and cut out the game cards. Place the cards in a pile face down. Players take turns drawing a card from the pile. If they get a card with a snowman on it, they read the word and keep the card. The object of the game is to collect as many snowmen as you can. However, there are two types of special cards in the deck. If you get a card with a melting snowman, you must return all of your cards to the center pile. If you get a card with a snowstorm, each player must give you one of their cards. The player with the most snowmen at the end of the allotted time, wins.
If you like this game, you can purchase additional versions at my TPT store. You can combine this deck with short vowel CVC versions, silent 'e' or consonant blends to create a review game. I also find it helpful to have multiple versions in my room so I can easily differentiate centers.
