This is a fun activity for a seasonal literacy center, but it could also work for your small group intervention.
Cut the cards apart and laminate for durability. Place the two parts of the sentence (subject and predicate) in different containers. Students follow the “I can” instructions to build their sentence. Then, they write it in their sentence book and illustrate.
This is intended for beginning writers and readers to work independently, so there are only two parts to build a sentence (subject and predicate), and each card provides picture clues.
In addition, each page in the recording book includes a self-check element to remind students about starting the sentence with a capital letter, finger spaces, and the period at the end.
- 16 subject cards (orange)
- 12 predicate cards (purple)
- Simple instructions for students to follow.
- Sentence book (you will need to print the book cover for each student, and then add as many writing pages as you want) (makes 2 per sheet).
