Build a Zoo is an interdisciplinary board game that encourages students to use technology, knowledge of math, science, and social studies to create their perfect zoo. There are five variations of the game included that can be utilized for a variety of learning experiences depending on what you want your students to focus on. These game varieties are: Build a zoo by animal type (i.e. mammal, reptile, bird), Build a zoo by natural wild habitat, Build a zoo by continent the animals live on, Build a zoo by space requirements (i.e. area and perimeter), and Build a zoo by diet (i.e. carnivore, herbivore, omnivore). For each game, students will start their counters in the middle of the board on the “Build a Zoo”
space. A student will role the dice, and choose which direction to move. When they land on their final square, they will scan the QR code they are on. This code will take them to the A-Z Animals website, and give them a specific animal. They can then take that animal card and place it wherever they want to on their zoo template. THEY MUST ALSO RECORD THAT ANIMAL IN THE PROPER PLACE ON THEIR RECORD SHEET. The goal is the fill the zoo with animals based on
whichever requirements are on that record sheet. The first person to fulfill the zoo requirements wins.
