This is a product you can use along side of the Lucy Calkin's Reading Units of Study. This product is only for the first unit, Building a Reading Life. I have noticed that my students have a hard time using post-its in the first unit. They want to write more, the post-its get lost, or they plain forget about them! I decided to make a notebook/"Thought Spot" to help students learn how to make great jots from the get-go. It also holds them accountable for the skills they could be working on during independent reading.
Skills: Retelling, Visualizing, Questioning, Predicting, and Vocabulary.
The "Thought Spot" includes a read aloud and independent worksheet they can use to jot their thoughts about the class read aloud or their own independent book. This read aloud section allows for students to have an idea of what a good jot would look like. They read aloud section also allows the students to practice good jotting with you before going off on their own.
**This product does not contain lessons, skills, or objectives from the Units of Study. This is just a notebook to help facilitate their learning of making jots before graduating into their reader's notebooks!
