AUDITORY MEMORY – Hear the Hidden Message - All 3 Skill Levels

When you want to help your struggling learner improve auditory memory and listening skills, sometimes rote memorization activities simply aren’t enough to hold student interest. Introducing: Hear the Hidden Message.

Hear the Hidden Message is a more advanced auditory memory activity than some of the others in my store. If you think your child is only ready for the basics, start with

Repeat After Me and
Grid Art,

then work your way up to

I Heard a Mixed Up Word
and this one, Hear the Hidden Message.

This listing includes all 3 skill levels of Hear the Hidden Message. If you prefer to purchase one level at a time, please view the following listings (at $3 each):

Hear the Hidden Message – BEGINNING
Hear the Hidden Message – INTERMEDIATE
Hear the Hidden Message – ADVANCED

Building Auditory Memory Skills THE BOOK

First, students listen to and remember sequences of letters that you (or your assistant, or your voice recorder) read out loud. The letter sequences are provided for you. Then, using a 1-2 page grid full of letters, students eliminate all of the letters they hear in order to reveal the hidden message that remains.

Students may either cross out their letters with a pencil, or color the letter boxes with crayons. For an additional multisensory experience you may provide manipulatives like blocks or coins to cover the letters with instead.

This activity challenges students to first remember sequences of 2 letters at a time, building up to 6 letters, all while handling the distractions of random letters on a letter grid.

In addition to strengthening auditory memory and listening skills, Hear the Hidden Message also develops:

● working memory
● auditory discrimination
● visual tracking skills
● and attention.

The purpose behind every hidden message is to inspire and uplift, messages such as “KINDNESS NEVER GOES OUT OF STYLE” AND “EVERY DAY BRINGS SOMETHING GOOD.” Feel free to let these encouraging words spark deeper conversations!

Hear the Hidden Message, designed specifically as a parent friendly activity, is a simple tool to implement. Use it either at home with your own struggling student, in educational therapy settings, during speech and language therapy or in the classroom.

Teachers, this is a great tool you can share with your aides, your volunteers, or to suggest to parents as extra skill-building fun at home. You can even add Hear the Hidden Message to a listening station, if you’ve got one.
