This activity will give students the opportunity to take a basic sentence and make it better. They will get excited to see if they can use all the words in their new sentence, which will allow them to see how to get from a basic sentence to a better sentence.
Building Better Sentences
Objective: Students will build better sentences by adding adjectives to an existing sentence.
Included: 2 different sets, each with - 1 page with 6 different color sentences, 1 page of word cards with corresponding colors, 1 page of words in black and white and 1 recording sheet.
To Do: Print, cut and laminate all cards for durability. Copy recording sheet to have available for students.
Two ways to use these cards:
1. Give students colored sentences and color word cards. First build the basic sentence with the colored words, then have students insert color word cards to build a better sentence.
2. Give students colored sentences and black and white cards. First build the basic sentences with the colored words then have them choose a card from the whole stack (or as many cards as you want your students to use) of black and white cards to build better sentences.
This is a great center, small group or tutoring activity.
