Very young children respond best when they are actively engaged in a motor activity that is fun. Duplos, Mega Blocks and Legos are typically toys that children are familiar with. There are 4 different-sized Mega Blocks for children to practice words which contain early syllable shapes.
There are multiple ways to adhere the pictures to the sides of Mega Blocks.
-- clear contact paper
-- decoupage with Modpodge--this is the easiest to clean
-- print the pictures on large blank label sheets, cut, and apply to blocks
The blocks can be placed in a bag, a container, or fluffy hand puppet with a mouth. The child reaches in, selects a block, and says the name of the labeled object. I typically predetermine how many productions I want the child to produce before I let him/her build something with the blocks. This allows multiple responses from the child before “play”.
