Here’s a delicious way to have your students practicing their sight words. This is great for whole group, small group and RTI. I will be using this as RTI and a word work center this coming year.
Students will use the plate (to make it more fun, you could use a real placemat and plastic plate) to practice their words. Students should get an egg first and then find the other items to make their plate.
The final plate should consist of:
the word : egg
word spelled out: bacon
word used in a sentence: toast
rhyming word (optional): juice
The recording sheet can be used to differentiate. You may want students to copy the words and sentences just as they are, or you may want to challenge them to write their own sentence and find their own rhyming word. I’ve included two recording sheets - one with the rhyming option and one without.
If you’re a CRAZY teacher, you could even put the eggs into plastic easter eggs and have your students crack an egg to find out which word they’re building. Have fun!
For best results, print on card stock and laminate. I’ve included cut lines if you’re not inclined to cut out each item precisely. For ease in center building, each page has all the ingredients for each word so you can choose which words your students will be working on.
