This weekly lesson plan goes along with the common core curriculum map for 2nd grade: Building Bridges with Unlikely Friends. It is the SECOND week in my building bridges Unit.
In this weekly lesson plan, students will be reading Pop's Bridge by Eve Bunting.They will answer questions related to the story and identify the type of bridge in the story (learned in Week 1- Suspension Bridge). They will identify and draw a diagram naming the parts of a suspension bridge. Afterwards, they will make a model of a suspension bridge. The bridge will take 2 days to build. On Friday, the students will take a bridge building test where they will answer questions related to their bridge model.
By the end of the week, they are able to:
describe the narrative story elements in a digital text.
follow the steps to build a suspension bridge with all the key parts.
describe the connection between the steps in the bridge building project.

1 Bridge Booklet template to copy for each student - the booklet is formatted to be printed front and back so that when you fold it all the pages line up. You don't have to print it as a book. You could copy it and cut the pages so that the students can paste them into their reading journals.
