I created this document to improve my students' reading comprehension. I wanted to make sure they were being asked thoughtful questions, and had practice responding to them. This was an integral part of my Balanced Literacy program, used most often for independent reading.
This document includes a personal goals section, and a template for students to record their responses. In the preview, I have provided 4 example questions/prompts. The entire document includes 28 questions/prompts in the following categories: activating prior knowledge, questioning the text, making inferences, determining importance, visualizing, drawing conclusions, and other. It has been developed for responses to both fiction and non-fiction texts.
I found this tool to be very useful in improving my students' responses to the texts they read, which helped with their standardized testing in Language.
