    Bundle Description

STEM Challenges: This package contains six STEM Challenges all about building and having fun (and learning, too!) Each is listed in more detail below. I hope the opportunity to purchase this money-saving bundle will help you incorporate STEM into your busy schedule!

This bundle contains six challenges featuring FUN building tasks. These are available separately and as part of other bundles. The individual products include:

STEM Challenge: Build a Marble Maze

Students will design a maze through which a marble can travel. They will fold and bend paper or cardboard into the maze paths and then try their invention repeatedly. Your students will love this one! Materials needed: boxes (like a gift box), card board, card stock, copy paper, index cards, construction paper, marbles, craft items (like Styrofoam, foam, poms-poms, sponges, tissue paper), scissors, masking tape, and rulers.

    STEM Challenge Build a Car!

Students will have specific supplies and must design a car that rolls. They must work together to use the supplies in a creative way. Their thinking will truly be tested as they encounter problems to solve. Materials needed: cardboard, Styrofoam, cardstock, empty water bottles, plastic and Styrofoam cups, popsicle sticks, dowel sticks, pipe cleaners, straws, washers, bottle caps, boxes, aluminum foil, rubber bands, twist ties, tape, string, and glue.

    STEM Challenge Building Boats

Students will use simple supplies you probably already have on hand and they will choose which materials they wish to use. To make this even more challenging students have a materials spending budget and must stay within it while building their boat. Materials needed: straws, masking, tape, craft foam, aluminum foil, waxed paper, plastic wrap, cups, water containers, weight (like pennies), and lots of paper towels!

    STEM Challenge featuring Bubble Making

Students will be exploring with a bubble solution. The Exploration or Imagining stage of the process includes trying to create bubbles in specific ways and learning how to manipulate the bubble solution. The design challenge takes the fun one step further as students create a way to make the largest or most unusual bubbles they can! Materials needed: dish-washing liquid, glycerin, small containers (like aluminum pans), plastic lids to containers, straws, various items to use in the design challenge (like pipe cleaners, washers, rubber bands, plastic canvas, screen, binder rings, paper clips, cups), and lots of towels.

    STEM Challenge featuring Chromatography

Students will be thinking about the many colors that mix together to create new shades. Students will experiment with water soluble markers and filter paper to see the separation of the color mixtures in the marker ink. It’s a fun activity with simple supplies and can be extended in many ways. Materials needed: coffee filters, markers in many colors, several different brands of black markers, water droppers, bowls, and lots of paper towels!

    STEM Challenge featuring Catapults

Students construct a working catapult using simple and inexpensive supplies. Once the catapults are built students are challenged to use their devices to complete several tasks. The tasks include firing a projectile (pom-pom) the greatest distance, firing at a target, and firing over an obstacle. The catapults are easy to build, easy to modify, and great fun! This packet will take at least two class sessions to complete. Materials needed: craft sticks, rubber bands, items to launch (Ideas: pom-poms, mini marshmallows, foam balls) and wooden blocks (optional).

Each of the challenges includes a scoring rubric and all of the forms are editable!
