This is a fun *discovery* lab I've used with my students at the beginning of Properties of Matter. Students will use gum drops (or any gummy candy) and toothpicks to build molecules and compounds.
The students work in small groups of 3-4 and are given Ziploc bags of candy to use. As a team, they have to build the molecules and compounds listed in the table. There are several other tasks the students must complete on the table, as well. My advanced students can name the compounds and determine the type of bond, but other students may need additional help.
An answer key of the table the students will complete is included. I mixed up two of the columns. (Sorry! ) :)
