Product Description
Building Molecules is a worksheet I designed to be used with a classroom set of the Molecular Building Kits but can be utilized as a stand-alone worksheet. I have modified a second version of this worksheet for those that do not have the kits, it is included in this product.

This inquiry based worksheet has students determine the molecular name, formula and structure of the following molecules:

Methane
Carbon Dioxide
Ammonia
Butane
Ethyne
Phosphorous Trichloride
Sulfur Trioxide
Phosphorous Pentachloride
Sulfur Hexafluoride
Dinitrogen Tetroxide
Phosphine
Sulfur Dioxide
Butanone
Dimethylether
Ethanol
Ethene

If using the molecular kits- students are to review the color of each atom ball before starting and assign the number of bonds that atom will make based on the amount of holes in the molecule ball. Students complete the worksheet where they determine the structure of the molecule after discovering the name, formula and structure of that molecule.

If NOT using the molecular kits- I have included the modified form of the worksheet below the kit version. The modifications have the students determine the amount of bonds each atom makes by examining the periodic table. Students use the attached guide as a way to determine the name, formula and structure of each molecule on their worksheet by examining the information given.
