Don't reinvent the wheel.
How Many to Get to 10…
Print off cards on card stock and laminate.
Place cards in random order, bind with ring and flip.
Hold cards up one at a time and ask, “How many to get to 10?”
Students will quickly recall groups of numbers (Compatible Numbers) that will add up to 10.
Other versions are to ask students to add 2, add 5 or 10 to each number.
With numbers 10-20 work on subtraction of 2, 5 or 9.
Students will quickly begin recalling number combinations for all basic operations.
Note: I keep two sets in class for easy use.
