This product includes two handouts (one scaffolded and the other independent) that can be used with any short-film and a PDF guide for how to model this scaffolded-approach with students. In addition, you will receive a list of recommended Pixar clips and illustrated themes. NOTE: This product does NOT include the videos, but a quick internet search should lead you to the short-films.
This product is intended to help students build an expository essay BODY PARAGRAPH! It does not cover the introduction and conclusion of an expository essay. Students should have an understanding of creating CONTROLLING IDEAS before using this product.
Practicing with this product will help students understand that body paragraphs should include a specific example. In this case, the example is in the form of a short-film. The students will learn to create topic sentences, provide brief summaries (check out this resource if your students struggle with summaries: Interactive Notebook Resource: Order and Sequence Thought Pattern
), and make connections between the film and a controlling idea. More advanced writers could skip the scaffolded worksheet and try the independent worksheet to allow for more freedom and creativity.
The two handouts are editable, giving you the freedom to add the vocabulary you use in your classroom.
