Building relationships with your students and families is the first and most important thing you should do as a teacher.
I started giving out these invitations to my students last year and it is one of the best decisions I have made.
This invitation allows me to be involved in my students lives outside of school. When you teach primary grades it is tricky to see your kids shine outside of academics because most of our schools do not have sports teams. Even if you do not teach primary grades there may be an organization or something that your student does outside of your district.
Attending these events lets my students and their families know that I am invested in their child, besides that they are fun!
