Building Snowmen- Adding and Subtracting Fractions is a fun game where students will build/create their own Adding and Subtracting Fractions problems with Like Denominators. Students will pick a task card and follow the directions! This game comes with 72 task cards. Your students will add and subtract fractions and mixed numbers. Students might get challenged by having to add three fractions or mixed numbers. They may even have to borrow in their subtraction problems! Don’t forget to remind your students to put their answers in simplest form and they must also remember that their final answers cannot be an improper fraction! There are so many combinations, that your students can continue to practice and review over and over again!

Building Snowmen- Adding and Subtracting Fractions comes with 10 pages of fraction snowmen. Each page comes with 12 fraction snowmen, For a total of 12o fraction snowmen! It also comes with 12 whole number Snowmen! Each snowman’s hat has a letter, so students can tell their denominators apart.

Building Snowmen- Adding and Subtracting Fractions comes with a student answer sheet. This game does not come with an answer key because there are so many combinations that students can create!

Student Directions-

Students will separate their number cards into 11 stacks- A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I,J, and K

Students will make a stack of task cards

Students will pick a task card and follow the directions. They will select cards and complete the given operation- addition or subtraction of their fractions.

Students will write their problems and solve their created problems on their FRACTION MATH PROBLEM SHEET.

Teacher Directions-

Copy the different stacks of cards- A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I,J,K on different colored paper so that students don’t mix them up.

You can have students work individually or in groups. This could be a whole group, small group, or center activity.

Students could use dry erase boards or scratch paper to show their work.

There is no answer key to this activity because there are so many combinations that students could create.

For an extra challenge, you could have students pick cards randomly from the different stacks and then try adding or subtracting them.

- The possibilities are endless with this activity! Be creative and have fun!
