As students enter middle school, they are beginning to transition to a more formal writing style. To give my students a starting point, I created a lesson on building thesis statements that provides a concrete formula. This lesson incorporates color, patterns, visuals and movement to assist all learners in thesis writing success. Students begin with a short discussion followed by guided notes and practice. The class is then broken into small groups to transition through stations. At each station, students will collaborate to analyze the elements of the station's thesis statement. This lesson comes with slides, a student handout and a quiz.
