What’s in this package?
This package includes three antonym word lists that match the lists in the third grade Fountas and Pinnell reading assessment kit (39 sets in all). Should you choose to implement the activities in centers, there is a student direction card—5 simple steps to antonym success! You will also find an antonym recording booklet, a vocabulary dictionary, puzzle templates, a Antonyms Fiddle Strips Game, a Build Your Memory game, an antonym packet cover page, three printables using the antonyms from the word lists, and data recording forms for whole group and small groups.
How can I use this package?
The activities included can be used in small guided reading groups, in literacy centers, or in whole group. I would preassess word knowledge of synonyms to differentiate appropriately. I would make word lists for students to have as a study tool (one list at a time). I would allow students time to use the dictionary to explore the word meanings, play in teams, and practice independently. You could use the cards from Build Your Memory as an assessment tool. The printables can be used as both practice and assessment. You might want to laminate games for durability!
Why is this package useful?
These activities work very well as partner work, especially for English language learners! These activities can guide your reading instruction. These activities allow students to use language for reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Students will make discoveries and commit language to memory!
