Help students build strong word attack skills with this fun and engaging, hands-on, word building game. Building words is a great way for students to practice decoding and blending sounds in words.
In this game, students will combine onsets and rimes, focusing on long vowel word families. Learning and practicing the rime patterns helps children familiarize themselves with many more words that contain the same rime pattern.
This small group game is for 2-6 players.
Here is what’s included:
✅One Game board
✅Eight Different Games (one game for each long vowel and three games with a mix of all the long vowels.)
✅Six different colored generic mats. (Use these if you do not want to print a set for each vowel.)
✅Six mats for each vowel, labeled with the vowel.
✅Onset and rime cards for each game.
✅Basket labels for onset and rime cards.
✅Student directions for the game. I included a set of directions for those who choose to use the recording sheet and a set for those who choose not to use the recording sheet.
✅Answer keys for each game. Students use the answer keys to make sure the words they built are real words. If they are unsure of what a word means, teach them how to look up the meaning of it in the dictionary.
✅An optional recording sheet for each game.
