Students assemble, color, and complete a poster-sized (30 x 23.5 inches) model of Tyrannosaurus rex with fold-out information flaps. The fold-out flaps include:
a Geologic Timeline showing when Tyrannosaurus lived
a labelled diagram of the assembled bones for students to color
a color key to the bones
a guide to the unique features of Tyrannosaurus
a collection of Tyrannosaurus facts
student research activity (from books, the internet, and the completed poster)
First, students assemble and color the background and outline pages. Next, the individual bones are colored and cut out from paper and attached to the outline. By curling or folding the paper bones, their model will take an a raised 3-D effect. Students then color, cut out, fold, and attach the information flaps to the poster. Finally, students complete and attach their research activity.
The “Construction Instructions” Presentation will show students, step by step, how to build their Tyrannosaurus poster. The presentation can be viewed in PowerPoint, Keynote, or PDF formats.
The Building a Dinosaur activity will engage students for hours and will produce a lasting classroom display.
