Pasta Power Tower is hands-on engineering challenge. The challenge is to construct a tower as high as possible using spaghetti and mini-marshmallows that will support a given weight (a small juice box) for five seconds. The tower cannot sink below 2 inches (5 cm) of the measured height.
Students complete this STEM engineering challenge in small teams. Our students have found this project engaging and very hands on! The emphasis is on critical thinking and being able to articulate what worked well and what could be improved upon if redesigning the tower. It is a great stand-alone project or could be done with a unit on Force and Motion in Science. The materials used in this engineering challenge are easy to find and inexpensive.
