PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

I use these slides in my 8th grade ELA classroom to introduce informative writing vocabulary and model building a body paragraph of an informative piece. Students examine both sides of a controversial topic and write an essay as a summative assessment.

These slides will help students make claims and support them with reasoning, evidence, and a warrant.

Vocabulary terms include: claim, reasoning, evidence, and warrant. Each vocabulary slide includes a definition and an example, building a basic paragraph. Use the acronym (C.R.E.W.) to prompt students to build paragraphs in all their writing assignments.

A list of useful sentence starters are included to help students get started and organize their thinking.

Aligned to CCSS Informative/Writing Standards for grades 7-8. Can be modified for argumentative writing too by modifying the examples to take an argumentative position on a topic.
