Product Description
This PRINT and GO math resource was designed to give 1st, 2nd, & 3rd grade students daily opportunities to help increase proficiency in math fluency by composing creative addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division number sentences, all with using the date or the number of the day as the sum, difference, product, or quotient.

How It Works: (in 4 easy steps!):

Step 1: A student volunteers to read the date or the number of the day. For instance, if the date is May 2, 2016, then the student will read this entire date out loud to the class. Likewise, if the number of the day is 2, then the student will announce this information.

Step 2: Your kiddos are told that they will be creating number sentences with sums, differences, products, and quotients that only equal “2.”

Step 3: Make sure that each student has a recording book (or a single recording sheet--whichever you’d prefer). Each number sentence for the date (or the number of the day) is written down on the recording sheet during brainstorming and building.

Step 4: A student is randomly chosen (by using popsicle sticks; his/her individual student number; by teams/groups, by colors, etc.) and asked if he/she has a number sentence for the date or number of the day. If so, then it is first recorded onto the TEACHER’S recording sheet. Continue this process with about 3-5 more students.

Gentle Suggestions/Tips/Reminders:
*Make sure that the kiddos have enough brainstorming time.
*INK SAVER ALERT! This entire product has been created using only black, white, and gray ink.
*For the first few times that your students write “Knockout” number sentences, EXPECT and ACCEPT SIMPLICITY! For instance, if students are attempting to build number sentences that equal “2,” then you may get number sentences such as “1+1=2” or “4-2=2”.
*Use positive statements to GENTLY ENCOURAGE your students.
*After a few times with modeling “Knockout! Number Sentences,” you may choose to have your students complete this activity during math centers, math workshop, during morning/bell/seat work, as team tasks, and even as an assignment for homework!
*There is a blank “Knockout!" number sentence recording sheet available for you to use in any way that suits the needs and academic levels of your kiddos.
*There is a student cover included with this resource, should you want to make a “book” for your kiddos.
*Use the student visual learning aids in any way that suits the academic needs and levels of your kiddos.

Boom! Knock those number sentences out! :)
