Creative Monthly Calendars: February
A monthly calendar bulletin board can serve many purposes. It can be used for your morning calendar exercises, a resource for math learning of reading a calendar, and a beautiful way to display student art. The projects can be seasonal themed or in conjunction with the units you are teaching (like an origami ladybug during the month you are teaching life cycles)
Each month, the students make two calendar square art projects that will fit the calendar squares. One is usually a 3-D object and one is usually a quilt patterned construction paper square.
Once you have the first calendar up, you will start to make it your own, using your own project ideas and make it reflect your classroom. The students love seeing what each month brings!

*step-by-step instructions for calendar set-up and student projects *(many instructions contain picture step-by-step instructions)
*printables so you can prep for the student calendar projects
Steps to make the first calendar:
1. You will need a bulletin board area that is about 70" wide and
50" tall. This is the area for the calendar only. Leave room at the top for the name of the month and a calendar character(optional)
(See picture 1)
2. Cut 35 squares (9"x9" black construction paper; one of the teachers used white because her walls were black material)
3. Staple black squares to the bulletin board area. This part doesn't come down at any time during the year. The rest of what you will put on will change with the seasons or whatever goes with your instructional needs.
