Seventeen pages included; each page contains the first line from a novel (several classic, several contemporary) and the title/author of that book. Pick and choose those you like; fifteen fit on my large bulletin board.
I used this to create a semi-interactive "Great First Lines in Literature" bulletin board. I printed the pages on bright, colored paper, then cut each in half (separating the first line from the title of the book). Then I used thumbtacks to display the first lines from the novels, and stapled the name of the title/author underneath each first line, directly to the bulletin board. This way, students can read various first lines from literature, determine what sparks their interest, and lift it up like a flap to reveal the title/author of the book!
