I polled family/friends/anyone and everyone to compile over a dozen pages of short blurbs/quotes from real people about how reading and writing is used on an everyday basis across career fields. I received responses from dozens of fields (industrial work, social services, science and medicine, sports administration, and computer programming, just to name a few). I then printed the quotes on colorful paper and arranged them on my "English in Every Job" bulletin board, allowing students to see quickly why English IS important, and how they can expect to use it following high school.
I have arranged the blurbs under career headings. Within the quotes, I have color-coded each job title in red, and made bold a section of each quote that drives home the idea that English is important in every career field.
The document is ready-to-print, but is also editable, allowing you to alter font size and color, and select which quotes/information you would like to use!
