I created these templates for "Bullfrog at Magnolia Circle" because I found the Engage NY/module MAIN IDEA worksheets for the book to be... useless! I wanted to create something that would be EASIER for my kids (and me!) to use and also help prepare them for the NY STATE assessments constructed response questions.
Pages 2 - 10; I went through the book and created a template for the kids to fill out. They have to make a claim (what they think the main idea is) about each paragraph/page and then give the evidence that proves it. This is the same format they would have to use when answering questions on the STATE assessments, so it's great training.
I also wanted them to look for what I call "cool" words; words that sound interesting, they don't know or seem important. Some are vocabulary words and some just sound cool to them.
Pages 11 - 12; SIMPLE DIRECTIONS!
Page 13; I included a generic "make a claim" page for you to use with any text. I have lots of make a claim items in my store with directions and examples to make this skill easier to teach.
Pages 14 - 17; ANSWERS!!!! When we were first given the module for this book, there were no answers!! I have taught this book for 2 years, and I kept track of the main ideas my kids usually came up with for each page, so you have main ideas and evidence already done for you!!
