An anti bullying activity for empathy building
This whole class activity showcases the permanent and destructive effects of verbal bullying. The students are active participants in seeing a literal metaphor of a bullied person and then respond to questions to develop empathy for this person. This lesson is a guided thinking approach for empathy building and is a yearlong reminder of how verbal bullying can create lasting scars. This thought provoking, anti bullying activity engages students in purposeful discussion.
This activity is easily adapted for grades 4 to 12. Included are: an extensive lesson overview, photos of the lesson in progress, student 'guided thinking' response worksheets, sample student responses and an assessment Rubric.
