If your Decembers in the classroom are anything like mine, they'll be full of nativity play practice, carol singing and crafts! However, there's always times where I have a 10 minute gap and I wished I had a sit down activity for the children to get on with. So, I created this bumper activity pack for my class as a 'pick up and put down style' resource to use in the run up to Christmas.
This PDF could be printed as a whole booklet or as individual sheets to be used as and when. It contains the following sheets and activities:
*a code cracking activity to reveal a 'Christmassy' secret message
*a Christmas dinner wordsearch
*3 sheets to play a Christmas 'Scattergories' game as a class (instructions included)
*A sheet to prompt children to write a letter to Santa
*A grammar activity on possessive nouns
*Christmas themed math word problems
*A Christmas word scramble - answers must be unscrambled then written in the handwriting spaces provided.
*A creative writing prompt based on a Christmas turtle!
*A colour-by-multiplication sheet where children need to work out the answers to sums to colour the picture correctly.
*A Christmas time wordsearch
*A Christmas word finder - children need to find words within word (a great spelling activity!)
*A 'naughty or nice' survey - children can complete the survey with a partner and work out whether they were naughty or nice this year!
* A prompt to write a set of instructions on how to decorate a Christmas tree
*An activity sheet on choosing and using suitable verbs
*A create your own Christmas t-shirt - children can design it like a class Christmas sweater!
*An activity sheet on Christmas around the world
*A Christmas crossword
*A prompt for a Christmas acrostic poem
*...and finally an answers and marking guide for teachers!
I believe there's a good mix of activities children can complete without much guidance and activities which require a bit more planning and thinking skills. The variety means there will be an activity for every situation, whether you have 10 minutes or an hour over the Christmas period.
