    Description

Students use organism cards to construct a food web and food pyramid and practice ecology vocabulary. There are 12 cards for each ecosystem - 1 sun and 11 organisms in each set.

Designed for TpT digital activity or print. For the digital option, go to the specific page for each resource after purchase.

    Activity Options

    1. Construct a Food Web – students will connect organisms with arrows to show the flow of energy from one organism to another.

    2. Construct a Food Pyramid to Classify by Trophic Level – students will use the information for each organism to determine its place in a food pyramid from primary producers to top predator.

    3. Classify by Type of Food Source – lead students through dividing the organisms into autotrophs and heterotrophs. Further divide the heterotrophic animals into herbivores, omnivores and carnivores.

    4. Classify by Type of Organism – lead students through dividing the organisms into

their different kingdoms. Animals can be further divided into groups such as arthropods, fish, crustaceans, mammals, etc.

    NGSSMS-LS2-3
Develop a model to describe the cycling of matter and flow of energy among living and nonliving parts of an ecosystem. Emphasis is on describing the conservation of matter and flow of energy into and out of various ecosystems, and on defining the boundaries of the system. Assessment does not include the use of chemical reactions to describe the processes.
    NGSSMS-LS2-2
Construct an explanation that predicts patterns of interactions among organisms across multiple ecosystems. Emphasis is on predicting consistent patterns of interactions in different ecosystems in terms of the relationships among and between organisms and abiotic components of ecosystems. Examples of types of interactions could include competitive, predatory, and mutually beneficial.
