When Lincoln promoted Ulysses S. Grant to command the Union Army, he finally found a general who not only understood what was needed to with the war, but also was willing to fight at whatever the cost to earn ultimate victory. His right- hand man was William T Sherman, who carried out Grant’s wishes plan to bring the south to its knees. These two men formed a partnership that won the American Civil War.

This presentation covers the Civil War Resumes on both Grant and Sherman, where they fought and how they won the Civil War. Grant was present at the following battles:

Although called a “drunk” and a “butcher,” Grant understood that with superior forces and resources, he could fight a prolonged war of attrition and with the war. He also understood the concept of waging “total war” know and with the aid of General Sherman devastated the south.

Sherman got off to a bad start with the press shortly following the fall of Ft. Sumter. He made some unfortunate statements overestimating enemy strength, and newspapers accused him of being insane. His transfer to serve under Ulysses Grant, turn everything around as they formed a strong bond that carried them throughout the war, both contributing to the others success.

Most famous for the “March to the Sea, Sherman played a pivotal role in many significant battles of the Civil War.
