PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This is a bundle of two, highly animated, power point presentation on the biographies of George and Martha Washington. There are a total of 98 slides in the presentations, all of which are editable so you can modify the slides if you need to.

The presentation on George Washington covers the period of his early years, his military service, his leadership in the American Revolutionary War and the ultimate defeat of the British at Yorktown, his impact on forming the new government, election as the first US President and his death in 1799.

Martha Washington, was born Martha Dandridge in Chestnut Grove, VA, the eldest daughter of John Dandridge, a wealthy landowner, and his wife, Frances Jones Dandridge, both of whom came from established New England families. Martha's first husband who died, was also a wealthy landowner, was Daniel Parke Custis. They had 4 children; 2 died in childhood.

Martha met the young George Washington at a formal ball in Williamsburg, VA. She had many suitors, but married Washington on January 6, 1759. She moved that spring with her 2 surviving children, John Parke Custis (Jacky) and Martha Parke Custis (Patsy), to Mount Vernon, Washington's estate. Her 2 children were adopted and raised by George.

George Washington Parke Custis' daughter, Mary Custis Lee, married Robert E. Lee. A part of the Custis estate which had passed through George Washington Parke Custis to his son-in-law was confiscated by the federal government during the Civil War, though the United States Supreme Court eventually found that the government had to reimburse the family. That land is now known as Arlington National Cemetery.
