Early humans were nomads and lived in small tribes of "hunter-gatherers". Nomads were people who stayed on the move looking for food, without a permanent home. Every day was a struggle to find enough food to feed the group. This prevented humans from discovering new things, until the time when humans did not have to worry about finding food each day.

It has been determined that human migration began during the Ice Age began about 100,000 years ago. 75,000 years ago, humans left Africa and moved into Southwest Asia (Middle East) and into Central Asia. 40,000 years ago, humans moved towards East Asia and Europe. 13,000 years ago, humans arrived in the Americas.

Most historians think the first civilization started between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers in Iraq. The land between those rivers is called Mesopotamia. Due to the shape of the land, this area is also called Fertile Crescent or Cradle of Civilization.

The Americas were the last continents to be reached by humans as groups of people probably followed animal herds from Russia across the land bridge into Alaska. This group much later became Aztec, Inca, Maya, and Native Americans.

The power point presentation covers 29 vocabulary words on Early Humans. The students are provided a list of the 29 vocabulary words within the presentation. Each vocabulary word is presented on a separate slide and contains the vocabulary word and its common definition.

The assignment for students is to review each of the 29 vocabulary words listed and to understand what they mean and how they became part of our vocabulary today. Sometimes vocabulary reviews can be a little stiff, so I have highly animated each of the 34 slides. They are also editable so you can feel free to adjust these slides as you need to.
