In this a bundle of two separate power point presentations on The Early Middle Ages: Feudalism in Europe - The Social Order and The Middle Ages: The Decline of Feudalism that occurred during the Middle Ages.. The combined presentation includes 32 slides that are highly animated and editable so you can modify the slides if you need to.
The Early Middle Ages began with the fall of Rome. After 500 years of living in a unified Europe, the Roman Empire collapsed leaving the people to fend for themselves. Exposed to the elements and virtually starving, they worked hard simply to survive and needed protection. These challenges gave rise to the economic and political system historians called "Feudalism." In this system, people pledged loyalty to a powerful landowner (lord) in return for protection. Armed warriors (knights) fought on behalf of the lords. Peasants worked the land and some peasants who could not leave the land were called serfs.
During the 12th to 15th century feudalism declined primarily due to the political changes in England, the Bubonic Plague and the Hundred Years War. The Magna Carta was also written during this time. It limited the powers of the king and strengthened the power of the nobles.
