Abraham had lived a long life and the Lord had richly blessed him with land, flocks, herds, maids, and servants - everything a man could possibly want. His one concern that deeply troubled him: His son, Isaac, was not yet married. That was a great problem for Abraham, because God had promised that he would have many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and they would become a great nation.

Abraham called for his most trusted servant, Eliezer, and talked this problem over with him. "Please promise me that you will go back to my country and my people and bring back a young lady to marry my son Isaac. I don't want him to marry any of the young ladies around here because they worship idols and are not godly." So he set out to find Isaac a wife.

As soon as Eliezer reached the gates of the city, he got off the camels and made them kneel down. Then he kneeled right outside in the open . . . and he prayed. Just as Eliezer finished his prayer and stood up, the young ladies from the city of Nahor came to the well. Eliezer carefully looked at each one trusting God to show him the right one. Eliezer noticed one young woman. He approached her saying, "I have traveled a long way and am thirsty. May I please have a drink?"

God pointed out Rebekah, but he wanted to make sure. When all the camels were finally finished drinking, Eliezer reached into a pouch and took out a beautiful golden earring and 2 golden bracelets and gave them to the young lady as a thank you gift.

Eliezer bowed his head and worshiped the Lord right there at the well, because his prayer had been answered. God led him exactly where he needed to be. He knew this was the right family, and from Rebekah's actions of patiently giving water to all 10 of his camels, he knew for certain that she was the right young lady to take home to be a bride for Isaac.

At the well, when all 10 camels had enough water and quit drinking, Eliezer took a golden earring and 2 golden bracelets out of a pouch, and gave them to Rebekah as a thank you gift. He then asked her name and if her father had room at his house so he could spend the night.

"My name is Rebekah," she replied. "I am the daughter of Bethuel. Nahor is my grandfather, and we have plenty of room at our house. I'm sure my father won't mind if you stay with us for the night. And don't even worry about the camels. We have plenty of straw and food for them."

Arriving at the house Eliezer stated, "I can't sit down to eat until I have told you the reason for my coming," the stranger said graciously. "I am Eliezer, Abraham's servant. The Lord has greatly blessed him with herds, flocks, servants, and riches. Abraham made me promise to bring back a young lady from this city to be a bride for his son Isaac. When I was at the well, I prayed that God would show me which young lady was the right one. I knew instantly that she was the right one and that God had answered my prayer.

I bowed my head and worshiped God. . . . Now . . . I need to know if you will allow Rebekah to come back with me and marry Isaac. If not, I must be wrong, and I must leave before it gets too late."
Both her brother Laban and her father Bethuel agreed that it was the Lord that had brought Eliezer to their house, and they agreed to let Rebekah go with him.

They all helped Rebekah and her maid pack their belongings and loaded them onto the camels. Then Rebekah and her maid were soon following Eliezer to a place they had never seen, trusting God to know what was best for her, was on her way to a strange country to marry a man she had never even met!

Isaac was happy to have such a beautiful bride, but, more importantly, he was happy that Rebekah was a young lady who trusted in the Lord. All the questions they had about one another simply disappeared. Isaac and Rebekah knew God meant for them to be together, and they were married that very day.
