The media influences public policy by bringing attention to issues, showing different views on issues, holding candidates accountable and allowing officials to communicate with citizens. Public Policy helps determine how individuals, interest groups and the media influence the actions of the government.

There was a time in the United States when candidates relied on word of mouth, local connections, newspapers and horseback to get their message to the voters. Some thought undignified to campaign personally for high office so they had “surrogates” running their campaigns for them. OH, HOW TIMES HAVE CHANGED! Media, now plays one of the most significant roles in election campaigns, resulting in billions of dollars being spent on National Elections.

Propaganda is a powerful force and plays an important role. The modern world is dependent on it. Government, the business world, the political parties and various other sections of society use it so serve their own purposes. In the two world wars the battle on the propaganda front was as intense as on the military front. Both sides made wide use of propaganda. It helped in crushing the morale of the army and civil population in the enemy state and in building up the morale of the army and civil population in one's own state.
