Voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in the inaugural election of 1936, he died in 1961 in Atlanta, GA. In 1998, The Sporting News ranked him No. 3 among the Top 100 players in baseball history. While many of his storied records have fallen, his career batting average of .366 remains unchallenged.

Johannes Peter "Honus" Wagner was a shortstop for 21 seasons in Major League Baseball from 1897 to 1917, almost entirely for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Wagner won 8 batting titles, tied for the most in National League history with Tony Gwynn. He also led the league in slugging 6 times, and in stolen bases 5 times. Wagner was nicknamed "The Flying Dutchman" due to his superb speed and German heritage.
One of the first 5 players elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame, Wagner is considered by some baseball historians to be the greatest all-around player in the history of the game.

A versatile athlete who played every position but catcher during his 21-year career, Wagner was the dominant player of his time, capturing 8 batting titles over a 12-year stretch and leading the National League in numerous other statistical categories as well during the first decade of the 20th century.

The Honus Wagner T-206 baseball card printed by the Piedmont Cigarette Company was purchased for $2.8 million by Arizona Diamondbacks owner Ken Kendrick. In 1909, the cards were distributed along with tobacco and Wagner asked for his to be withdrawn because he was a nonsmoker and didn’t want to set a bad example for children.

He is the only pitcher in MLB history to rank in the top 10 both in career wins and in career ERA. Power Point #5 is entitled Sports & Entertainment – Walter Johnson and contains 19 slides and covers the following:

This is a 19 slide, highly animated, power point presentation on Sports & Entertainment – Walter Johnson. He was one of five of the original inductees in the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936. Each of the slides are editable so you can modify the slides to the presentation as needed.

Walter Perry Johnson was a Hall-of-Fame pitcher for the Washington Senators during the early 20th century. Despite playing on a losing franchise "The Big Train's" pitching exploits are largely unmatched. He ranks 2nd on the all-time list in wins with 417, his 3,509 career strikeouts stood as the standard before Nolan Ryan, broke it. His 110 career shutouts still appear to be an unreachable mark.

Twice Johnson was crowned MVP, 11 times his ERA bowed under 2 runs a game, 12 times he led the league in strikeouts, and for 10 straight seasons he collected at least 20 wins despite the uniform he was wearing. In 1924, he brought Washington its only championship after coming on for 4 scoreless innings in relief in Game 7. His skill and his character was so admired that he even won the respect of Ty Cobb, who wrote him a reference on his running for Congress in MD in 1940.
