Here are all the math word problems from sorts 1, 2, and 3 for students to sort bundled together to save you money! Are you ever looking for a way to help your students figure out which math operation they should use to solve a word problem? I've used this activity in my class and it has helped!
It is a sorting activity where students to match the word problems to one of the 4 operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). There are 16 word problems and there are 4 of each operation type. I have also included a direction page and an answer key. There are three different sets of problems to sort. I would recommend this for grades 2-5. You do not have to have students solve the problems (although sometimes I make that an extension activity). The purpose is for students to use the language and actions in the problems to determine the correct operation to use.
You can have students cut and glue this to a piece of construction paper or you can make this into a game or station by printing it on cardstock and laminating it.
You could have students do this independently, as a math center, as small group work, or with a partner.
