Bungee Time! (Lines of Fit and Linear Regressions)
Description of student activity:
Students will see an application of lines of fit and linear regression though modeling the length of an increase number of rubber bands with a suspended object. Students will be guided through a Median-Median Linear Regression as well as a computer assisted linear regression (Handouts for Desmos, GeoGebra, Excel 2013, and Google Sheets).
To start this activity, students (or the teacher) will read the introductory handout pages. This handout will explain Lines of Fit, Correlation, Regression Analysis, and steps for a Median-Median Linear Regression Analysis.
After completing the handout, students will be given directions to gather the data, graph their data, complete a Median-Median Linear Regression, and complete a Computer Assisted Linear Regression. Students will also answer thought provoking questions throughout this process and make comparisons between their data and the two regression analyses.
