My “Buoyancy Lab Report” is an easy to do lab that follows the steps of the Scientific Method. Students are challenged to design a foil boat and see how many pennies it can hold! This lab is perfect for students who are just learning about the Scientific Method and need a scaffold before being able to do labs independently. A rubric is included for easy grading. Portions of the lab are prefilled to prevent a lot of tedious writing. It begins with the problem stated in the form of a question. Students then gather information about their materials and write what they observe. Next they write their hypothesis. The materials and procedures steps are already completed. Students collect data during their lab and record it on the premade table. They analyze it by filling in a bar graph and then write their conclusion. This lab is very manageable for learning support students. The easy to follow format and small number of materials are great for teachers with tight budgets who are pressed for time!
