A two page assessment designed for a grade 5 and 6 geography unit on Australian Bushfires.
This task assesses students' ability to examine how people can prevent and minimise the effects of bushfires, especially in the context of their own family and living situations. Students write a scaffolded action plan using the following sequence: early preparation, house plan, action plan, evacuation plan. Students are also given the task of drawing their own house/property and labelling safe exit locations in the event of a fire.
My class completed this assessment task at the end of our Geography unit last year and after we had a visit from the local Rural Volunteer Fire Brigade. It was an awesome way for students to showcase their knowledge and apply it to their personal lives.
