The 34 activities in this workbook are suitable for a high school or college-level business communication class. The majority of the activities focus on public speaking but with a business focus. The remaining activities touch on other important business communication areas including group dynamics, public relations and advertising.
The format is designed to be flexible: you can copy and paste the material into a document to print out, post to a slide, or deliver to students electronically.
The activities are versatile and can be used for homework assignments, in-class small group projects, class discussion prompts, or adapted into test or quiz questions. There is one large group presentation assignment that can be adapted in various ways. Because textbooks so often use different terms, the items are written to allow you to accept answers that match your textbook or add your own options.
An answer key with suggestions for using each activity is provided.
The collection covers the following topics:
o Part 1: Introduction to Business Communication, 5 activities
o Part 2: Organizing a Speech, 8 activities
o Part 3: Connecting with Audiences, 7 activities
o Part 4: Group Communication, 5 activities
o Part 5: Public Relations, 5 activities
o Part 6: Advertising, 4 activities
Many of these exercises were developed in 15 years of teaching public speaking, business communication, media studies, and similar classes at the college level. A few activities are seen in other textbooks and instructor’s manuals (i.e., using this example, identify each part of an introduction) but have examples specially created for my workbooks.
