To examine the role played by the federal government in the development of business, labor, and agriculture in the United States.
1 class period
Students begin this activity by reading through information that summarizes the regulation of business, labor, and agriculture by the federal government. Sections include:
• Government Regulation of Business
• Government Policies and the Labor Movement
• Government Agricultural Policies
As they are reading, I have the kids underline or highlight key words, names, terms, and ideas.
Next, it is time to play JEOPARDY, which is always a favorite activity among my students! The five categories (NAMES, BUSINESS, LABOR, AGRICULTURE, and ODDS AND ENDS) can simply be written on the chalkboard. Or, if you have a whiteboard, you can use it to display the game board on page 70D. Complete game rules are provided on the lesson pages.
Questions on pages 70E and 70F are used to play JEOPARDY. Only you will have a copy of these pages during the game. Afterwards, you can give each student these pages to do as a quiz or review exercise.
Note: To save time, what I do with this lesson is distribute pages 70A-70D at the end of the preceding class period. And just before that class ends, I will read with my students the introductory paragraph. They must then do the reading and underlining or highlighting of key words, names, terms, and ideas for homework in preparation for playing JEOPARDY at the beginning of the next class.
Teacher Instructions and answer key included.
