This is a great rubric for an assignment that combines BOTH business letter format, with evaluation writing. The task is for students to choose their favorite teacher, and write a letter in business-letter format, to this teacher "evaluating" them and explaining why they are their favorite teacher. The rubric also specifies that student include "FEEDCATS." This acronym stands for Facts, Examples, Evidence, Details, Cause-Effect, Anecdotes, Testimony, and/or Statistics. A poster and powerpoint on FEEDCATS is for sale separately.
Along with explaining the task, this rubric also walks students through what will be expected, and includes a section for students to self-assess, along with space for teacher assessment/grade.
My students greatly enjoyed "evaluating" their teachers! Likewise, teachers loved this because it killed two birds with one stone... teaching/assessing business letters along with evaluation writing all at once. Teachers also loved RECEIVING letters from their students!
This worked perfectly for the 7th grade curriculum, and in preparation for the 7th grade writing test (expository writing). However, it would work well for any class that is in need of a rubric for business letters, evaluation writing, or both!
I hope you enjoy this rubric!
