These conversations will be tough for total beginners and should be
used with your low intermediate to high beginner students depending
on their ability. One thing that makes it easier is showing how the
conversations can be simplified.

A: Did you have a good time?
B: Yeah, we had dinner.
A: Did you have drinks too?
B: Yeah, we had some good drinks.

A: Did you have a good time?
B: Yeah, we had dinner and some good drinks.

How to use the worksheet.
1. Start off with some simple conversation, listen and correct.

2. Introduce a simple conversation pattern like above and have
students use the words but and and to simplify it.

3. Practice listening or speaking with the conversations:

A: Read the conversation - ask questions or have students ask and
answer questions about the story.

B: Have the students take turns reading parts a or b. Practice with
a focus on pronunciation.

4. Students get back to a new conversation of their own and try using
and / but in the way you’ve practiced.
